A decision on a possible halt to arms deliveries will initially be made in summary proceedings. Nicaragua is also demanding that Germany resume support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip. The decision in the summary proceedings is expected in around three weeks, the judgement in the main proceedings is not expected for several years. As an expert in international law, Christian J. Tams has been representing states in international court proceedings for around twenty years.

The Professor of Public International Law and Dispute Settlement Law at Leuphana and Professor of Public International Law at the University of Glasgow describes the two universities as "established cooperation partners": "We have had a dual degree programme, the Master in International Economic Law, in my field of international law for almost a decade, as well as close research cooperation," says Christian Tams. For example, he publishes the European Yearbook of International Economic Law together with Prof Dr Jörg Philipp Terhechte and Prof Dr Jelena Bäumler.

International law proceedings before the International Court of Justice are highly regulated proceedings between states. They are often represented by professors who must have specialist expertise and an interest in the practical application of international law.
